Acquired in 1979 and restored over the next two years the ground floor of The Wardrobe opened in 1981 displaying the Collections of the Royal Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiments.  The displays and Collection now include items from the successor Regiments.

...1914 the 1st Royal Berkshire war diary entry reads:

Delayed on road at HOOGE. Shelled by light shrapnel between HOOGE and YPRES, causing considerable consternation. Marched to WESTOUTRE via VLAMERTINGHE which place was reached about 8.30a.m. about 12 miles. Very trying march after 15 days in the trenches...

Regimental Timeline

Each regiment maintained a Digest of Service. This was a journal which recorded events in the life of the regiment. There was no set format and the amount of detail varied between regiments. Summary information has been extracted, and is presented here, from each of the four regiments' digests run from their formation until 1914.
