Regiment 1st Wiltshire
Location France, [La Couture]
Entry (Thursday) Returned to billets at RICHEBOURG St VAAST with 2nd Cavalry Bde, the line held by them, having been taken over by infantry during the night. Reorganised Battn into 3 Coys A C & D until further orders. Received a large consignment of mail, warm clothing and gifts from friends at home, issued same. Village of RICHEBOURG shelled by Germans about 3p.m. the first few shells falling in our billeting area. Obtained permission to move Bttn out of it towards LA COUTURE which was steadily done. Formed up Battn about 1 mile W of RICHEBOURG, keeping it extended as to minimize loss in case of further shelling. At dusk sent back party to remove our equipment and stores, some of which could not be removed while the shelling was on. About this time we received an order to proceed to LA COUTURE and find billets there. This we did, getting into billets about 8p.m. A wet night. Fighting continued along our front all night and enemy again shelled RICHEBOURG during the night. Casualties 2 killed, 4 wounded and also 2 horses.
