Entry | February 1917. The Battalion remained encamped in No 3 Labor Camp Rouen during the month of Feb 1917. and was employed at the various Depots, quite half at the Base Supply Depot, where, "A" Company under the work control of 2nd Lieut Fricker F, Was selected to permanently work in connection with the discharge of ships, and on both of two days handled about 7 tons per man: Some 42 men, were especially utilised viz. 12 Carpenters at Detail Issue Store Rouen, 17 Wood Cutters with First Army, and some 13 mechanics, various places Dunkirk, Havre, Bologne, Machine Gun Corps etc. On Feb 5 Reinforcement draft of 2 L/Corps and 78 Privates, joined from 13th Works Battalion Devonshire Regt, Saltash Devon. The Battalion came under the administration control of the newly appointed Director of Labor, British Exped Force. 2. The very [cold] weather which set in on Jan 1916 [he means 1917] continued to Feb 12 1917, taps being frozen to Feb 18th since Jan 29, making washing of person and clothes of men very difficult, and lice again appeared, which I had hoped to prevent: 6 cases of measles occurred during the month - the men continued to march out and back from work in the dark, the long hours and exposure, slightly only decreased the efficiency of the Battalion making a difference of some 3 per cent.
