Entry | January 1917. The Battalion remained encamped in No 3 Labor Camp Rouen during January 1917 and was employed chiefly in day labor at various Depots, and wharfs, but larger Parties being sent to the Base Supply Depot (670 on 31 January). 2. The Battalion has sent temporally 32 (thirty two) men on detachment, 3 mechanics to Machine Corps Heavy Branch: 20 wood cutters to 1st Army: 7 crane drivers to Dunkirk and 2 hammer-men to A.O.D Workshops Le Havre. 3. Bad weather was experienced during the month - wind, rain, sleet, being experienced during the first half of the month, and 43 tents which leaked had to be replaced: during the last half of the month, very cold temperatures experienced, especially so from Jan 19th onwards, water in basins in tents freezing during the day on 23rd January, and so continuing until the end of the month; snow falling on the 23rd and 31st January, on Jan 26th the ice on marshes was breaking and on 31 Jan Ice-Packs were floating in the Seine: On Jan 29th the water taps in camp became frozen or burst. 4. 500 (patched) jackets and 250 patched trousers were obtained from A.U.D to replace worn out working suits: 5.
