Regiment 8th Royal Berkshire
Location France, BERTRY
Entry Colour Presentation Parade:- The Colours were presented to the Batt by Lt Gen Sir P.O.N. Morland K.C.B, K.C.M.G, DSO, Commanding XIII Corps. The Batt by this time, much diminished in size moved off from BERTRY at 11.15am arrived on the Brigade Parade Ground at 11.45. It was freezing hard with four inches of snow on the ground. The bitterness of the cold, while waiting for the Corps Comdr and during the presentation was unspeakable. The Corps Comdr arrived at 12.02 and was received with the General salute by the Brigade which was formed up in mass with battalions in quarter column of half battalions. After the General salute, the Brigade formed three sides of a square, the colours eased were placed on the piled drums, and Capt L. Woodhouse and 2nd Lt J.L. Jackson with the Senior Majors and 1 Senior Lieutenant of the other Battalions took up their positions. The Colours, having then been consecrated by the Rev D. Randall C.F., were presented by the Corps Commander. The presentation was followed by a short address from the Corps Commander, who recounted the deeds of the Battalions starting from the action at LOOS in Sept 1915, in which the Royal Berkshires Regt took part, and ending with the Brigades last action at Mormal Forest, in which every Batt took part with such signal success. The colours, he pointed out were concrete emblems of the glorious and immortal deeds of the Battalions that received them. The line having been reformed, the Colours marched back to their Battalions, troops presenting arms and massed bands playing the National Anthem. The Brigade having marched past the Corps Commander in column of fours, returned to billets at 13.00 hrs.
