War Diary

1918-12-05
Regiment 8th Royal Berkshire
Location France, BEAUREVOIR
Entry The Battalion had now been allotted a new Salvage Area which included the village of BEAUREVOIR and roughly westwards to GOUY. Salvage operations were commenced and carried on during the remainder of the month. Large quantities of shell, machine guns, field guns and other war material were brought in especially from BEAUREVOIR itself which was littered with materials for salvage. A 12" dud in the cellar of a house in the Western Outskirts of the village presented a problem as its explosion would probably cause considerable damage throughout the village and also because the civilian occupants of the house next door objected to their property being damaged. At the end of the month the problem had still to be solved. The Light Railway running roughly W to E in the Southern outskirts of the village was found to have been mined in several places.
