Entry 1AM. Arrived at destination and rested in huts in this wood. 11AM. About 200 reinforcements (Battle Surplus) under command of MAJOR MORONY 8th R. BERKS arrived and rejoined their respective units. 11.5AM. Batt moved out of wood and took up a position N.E., of FNE DE ROUEZ facing BOIS DE FRIERES in support of 10th ESSEX Regt. One Coy was moved to a position on the high ground E of ROUEZ about 11:30am. 3PM. Batt was ordered to take up a position on the high ground S.W., of HELUT stream facing N.E. From this position the French could be seen withdrawing from FRIERES WOOD, NOREVIL and VIRY NOREVIL. At dusk the enemy were observed taking up a position running S.S.E., from the Eastern corner of FRIERES WOOD. 23/24.3.18. 12 Midnight. Orders were received to withdraw to the line of VILLEQUIER-AUMONT-CHAUNY Road. About this time news arrived that 10th ESSEX Regt were holding out in Southern corner of FRIERES WOOD. Shortly afterwards this party withdrew under MAJOR INNOCENT 10th ESSEX Regt.
