| Entry | 1.8.17-31.8.17. The special training commenced during the month of July was continued throughout August. GENERAL SIR H.S. RAWLINSON, Bart, G.C.V.O., K.C.B., Commanding Fourth Army inspected the 1st Division on Saturday 25th August, on the Beach. After medal ribbons had been presented and a short inspection the Division marched past the Saluting base. The satisfaction of the General on the parade is shown in Appendix II attached. On the night of 2/3rd August restrictions were placed upon the Camp; consequent upon it being closed. No one inside the camp being allowed to leave or hold conversation with persons outside the camp. During the month authority was received to strike the following Officers off the Establishment of the Battalion. CAPT C.E. BEALE, LIEUT G. BAKER, LIEUT D.F. STILEMAN, LIEUT S.E. DAVENPORT, 2nd LIEUT C.A. WILLIAMSON. Temp Lieut (Acting Captain D.J. FOOTMAN promoted Temp Captain 21.5.17. The afm Temp 2nd LIEUTS were promoted TEMP LIEUTENANTS with effect from the dates shown against their names:- C.G.M. MORRIS 1.9.16, A.L. OLIVER 21.5.17, R.E. DYMORE-BROWN 25.6.17, E.J. MECEY 25.6.17, A.M.BRAY 25.6.17. LIEUT R. HOLLAND and TEMP LIEUT C.H. KINGERLEE granted acting rank of CAPTAIN "additional" under the provisions of G.R.O. 2494 d/5.8.17. MAJOR G.A.
