War Diary

1917-04-18
Regiment 8th Royal Berkshire
Location France, CHUIGNES
Entry Training began along "new organisation" lines as laid down in SS.143 and SS.135. Training is now all for open or semi-open warfare. Machine gunners are trained in MG tactics in the open, signallers practice visual work and scouts and observers are trained to work under company commanders for purposes of observation and liaising. In all the training the great aim had been to make schemes as realistic as possible. Companies practicing the attack turn out in "battle order" and carry the equipment which would actually be carried in an attack.
