War Diary

1917-04-03
Regiment 8th Royal Berkshire
Location France, ROSIERES
Entry 3-4.4.17. Battalion moved to MORCHAIN marching via MEHARICOURT-PUNCHY CURCHY-DRESLINGCOURT the total distance being about 22 kilometres. The march was broken at CURCHY where the battalion had dinner. The rate of marching was good and no one fell out. MORCHAIN was reached at 1pm. Billets were not particularly good as the buildings had been mostly demolished by the enemy before their retirement but there were still a few weather proof buildings and a large number of dry cellars beneath the ruins in which the men were billeted. A, B, and D Coys were billeted in the village; C Coy occupying a windmill one kilometre S of MORCHAIN. The transport and QM stores not finding sufficient accommodation moved to the nearby village of POTTE.
