Regiment 8th Royal Berkshire
Location France, CHUIGNOLLES
Entry Battalion left billets in morning and rested and had tea at DOMPIERRE on route to relieve 2nd KINGS ROYAL RIFLE REGT in right batt trenches left sector. Relief complete 1.30am. Trenches of left company front bad - very shallow in a lot of places and thick mud and water in others. Right coy front deeper and less mud. Enemy not particularly aggressive. Reserve coy came in for most shelling. Signs of enemy holding his line lightly. Special patrol of batt scouts on night of relief reported enemy line held only at junction of communicating trenches.
