Regiment | 8th Royal Berkshire |
---|---|
Location | France, CHUIGNOLLES |
Entry | Training began under "new organisation" scheme. In this new method the battalion attacks in a series of four waves the object being to exploit the success after OGI and 2 have been taken and to successfully deal with any strong points which may be met with in the semi-open warfare which is established. The practice of this method of attack, and bayonet fighting, carried out on a good "assault course" constructed in the training area behind batt hqrs, constituted the chief training. The battalion used divisional baths at CHUINES each man receiving complete change of underclothes and also having his feet attended to. The field kitchens of the regiment were inspected by the Inspector of Catering to 4th Army who expressed great satisfaction at their cleanliness and general appearance and in his report which appeared in Battalion Orders No 49 says: "The outstanding feature was cleanliness. The travelling kitchens of the Berks Battalion were faultlessly clean and reflects great credit on the Battalion." Billets were also inspected by the A.D.M.S. who was most favourably impressed by their cleanliness and tidy appearance. The G.O.C. 1st Div visited the bayonet fighting assault course and viewed the work of the class with great satisfaction. Our headquarter guard was very favourably commented on by GOC 1st Bde who expressed his appreciation of their general smartness. |
