War Diary

1917-02-14
Regiment 8th Royal Berkshire
Location France, CHUIGNES
Entry 4:0PM. Marched to the trenches, relieving the 1st Batt Loyal North Lancs Regt in the Right Sector of the Divisional Front, occupying the position of Left Front Battalion. The weather up to this date had been, for the past 5 or 6 weeks, of a very severe character, the cold being intense most of the time. At this juncture however, a thaw set in, which very quickly converted the trenches from a dry state into a terribly muddy condition. Also in consequence of the thaw the trenches rapidly fell in, in places.
