Regiment | 8th Royal Berkshire |
---|---|
Location | France, BAZENTIN-LE-GRAND |
Entry | 3:30PM. Battalion left bivouac at BAZENTIN-LE-GRAND and went into front line trenches of the Centre Sector of the Divisional Front from MISC 3.0 to M24 b 2 1/2.6 (see attached map appendix I). The weather previously had been very bad and the rain had caused so much mud in the trenches that about 200 yards on the right flank had to be evacuated. There was no communication trench to the front line (except between the front and support lines) and one had to go over the open most of the way. The front line and the ground behind was overlooked by the BUTT of WARLENCOURT away off to the left. During the tour of four days that we had in the front line the weather was fortunately favourable. Hot tea was carried by the supporting Companies up to the front line Companies every night, this proved fairly successful. |
