Entry 12:0 Noon. Battalion was relieved by six platoons of 2nd Royal MUNSTER FUSILIERS. 1st Brigade on relief by 3rd Brigade went into support and Battalion reoccupied its old position in Northern edge of MAMETZ WOOD. 5:0PM. The right Battn = Argyll and SUTHERLAND Highlanders = of 15th Division on our left had previously patrolled the "SWITCH LINE" in region of track at S.2a and found it to be empty. At 5.0pm on 20th August one Company walked over from their front line at about S2C2.7 = 70th AVENUE = and entered "SWITCH LINE" without opposition. This Company established a barricade at the point where SWITCH LINE cuts track in S2a and sent out a patrol which got touch with a similar patrol sent out by our platoon which was in occupation of strong post in the angle of the "INTERMEDIATE LINE". This patrol left strong post at S2C8.4 and crawled along track in S2C and entered SWITCH LINE at S2a 6.2. The platoon in the strong post at S2C 8.4 was relieved by a platoon of the 2nd MUNSTERS after dark. MAMETZ WOOD. 20:8:16-26:8:16. Battalion remained in Northern edge of MAMETZ WOOD.
