Entry | The following message was received from General RAWLINSON = Commanding 4th Army = "Please convey to all ranks of the 1st Division my sincere thanks and admiration for the fine fighting spirit they have shown since they joined the 4th Army. Their energetic action on the 14th July materially assisted the success of the main attack and their attack on the 16th July was particularly well planned and executed. I am proud to have the 1st Division again under my Command." 3:15PM. The 1st Infantry Brigade was inspected by IIIrd Corps Commander = Lieut-General Sir W.P. PULTENEY, K.C.B., D.S.O. = who warmly congratulated them on their excellent work in the consolidation of CONTAL MAISON. He mentioned the fact that the two Service Battalions = 8th Berkshires and 10th Glosters = although not in the original 1st Brigade had, nevertheless, up held and added to the traditions of that Brigade. |
