Regiment | 8th Royal Berkshire |
---|---|
Location | France, MAROC "Double Crassier" |
Entry | 5:30PM. The 173rd Mining Company exploded a small mine in front of our line. It was not anticipated that a large crater would be formed, but the trench on either side was cleared and a party was detailed ready to sap out the new crater after dark and if necessary to establish a post on our lip. Artillery and machine guns co-operated. The result of the explosion was that the enemy's galleries were destroyed but the only effect above ground was the formation of a hole 30 feet in diameter with a lip about 3 feet high. As this crater was commanded from our front line it was necessary to sap out to it. |
