Entry 10:0am. Entrained. LILLERS. 11:0am. Detrained, and marched out. ALLOUAGNE. 1:0pm. The Battalion arrived, and went into billets, the month's rest being spent in ALLOUAGNE. Two Drafts, consisting of 15 men and 27 men were received, and taken on the strength. In order that the fullest advantage might be obtained from the moth's rest, the C.O. drew up a scheme of training. The month was divided into three periods: I. Individual Training. II. Company Training. III. Battalion and Brigade Training, including a Divisional Route March. Great attention was paid to the various specialists, particularly to the Grenadiers and in addition to the training of 1 team (8 NCOs and men) per platoon, every man in the battalion was instructed in the use of Grenades (Mills). The direction of the Grenade throwers was under the Battalion bombing Officer, 2nd Lt A.L. OLIVER. The Battalion signallers were trained under 2nd Lt H. Le G. SARCHET; Lewis Machine Gun team (4) under 2nd Lt G.M. COX; snipers under 2nd Lt CHURCHILL. Four men from every company were trained, under the M.O. Lt P. Mc GIBBON, in the use of the Vermoral Sprayer. During the stay at ALLOUAGNE, a section of Vickers Machine Gunners was taken from the Battalion to form part of the new Machine Gun Company. 2nd Lt G.B. COOTE accompanied this party.
