Regiment | 8th Royal Berkshire |
---|---|
Location | France, NOEUX-LES-MINES |
Entry | No entry for that day except the following was included in the diary at the end of December 1915. Courts-Martial: During 1915, ten men were tried by Field General Courts-Martial, as follows: Drunkenness in the Trenches: 2; (Sentences: 84 days Field Punishment No 1). Self-Inflicted Wounds: 3; (Sentences: 35, 84, 84 days Field Punishment No 1). Sentinels asleep at their Posts 5; (Sentences: Death commuted to 6 months or 1 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour). It is a very noticeable fact that practically all the above offences took place during the Battalion's early tours in the trenches. Evidently the sentences had an excellent deterrent effect on the men. |
