Entry Work. As yesterday. Enemy artillery. 2220-2300 shelled our outpost line VAN 8 to VAN 12 with 105mm shrapnel. At 0035 hours enemy machine gun fired four bursts of fire from direction of PITON de QUATRE ARBRES towards VAN 10. Patrol. 1 Officer (2Lt CHILDS) 20 ORS and LG det left VAN 6 2030 hours to locate enemy post at junction of Y and MACUKOVO RNE, and to clear village of enemy. From 2100-2200 hours enemy shelled S of PITON des QUATRE ARBRES, west side of MACUKOVO and PITON de L'EGLISE. During this time patrol lay up on the E outskirts of village. When shelling had finished the village was thoroughly reconnoitred, but no enemy found. There was no sign of a post at junction of Y - MACUKOVO RNE. Patrol returned via VAN 8. Remarks. 1 OR sick to hospital.
