Entry Work as yesterday. Enemy artillery. Inactive on this sector. Patrol of 2 Officers 2Lt A.V. SHILLCOCK and 2Lt ADAMS and 18 ORS and L Gun det left VAN 6 at 1935 hours, to engage enemy patrol if seen and clear MACUKOVO of any enemy. On reaching MACUKOVO RNE rifle shots were fired at patrol. Shortly after a machine gun was turned on them. Patrol withdrew to sunken track running through village, lay up for a time, then made a reconnaissance of village, when machine gun fire was again opened on them. Patrol moved to PITON de L'EGLISE, but on hearing coughing from direction of village, returned and made a further search. No enemy was seen but sound of people running were heard from direction of centre of village. Patrol returned to our lines 1250 hours without further incident. Remarks. 2 OR rejoined.
