Entry Work. In camp constructing Knife Rests, repairing trenches and wiring in outposts. Enemy artillery. 0400 hours shelled this sector. Between 1115-1410 hours 13 rounds HE on M4 and Battn Hdqr. Between 2130-2355 hours 30 rounds between PITON des QUATRE ARBRES and VAN 10 30 rounds 105mm on VAN 10-12. Patrols. 1 Officer (2Lt SKERMAN) 20 ORS and 1 LG det left VAN 10 2000 hours to engage enemy patrol if seen and lie up on PITON de L'EGLISE. Nothing was seen or heard of enemy on L'EGLISE. About 2100 hours enemy post on PITON des QUATRE ARBRES commenced throwing bombs and firing rifles in direction of VAN 12. A few moments later enemy brought down light barrage in front of PITON des AQUATRE ARBRES, this was repeated at intervals for some time. As patrol was returning to our trenches enemy open artillery fire on our front line trenches. Remarks. 1 OR sick to hospital, 1 OR rejoins.
