Entry | Work principally repairing trenches and strengthening wire. Enemy artillery. 0110 hours enemy fired a general barrage from THE NOSE to THE VARDAR on his wire, lifted to our outpost wire, and then on to our trenches. This lasted until 0140 hours. At intervals from 0140 to 0230 enemy again shelled our trenches. Enemy search light traversed our trenches at 2020, and at intervals from 0200 to 0330 hours. During the day enemy artillery comparatively quiet. At 1655 placed 23 rounds 105MM along outpost wire from VAN 5 to VAN 12. No patrol was sent out from this sector. Letter received from the 78th Infantry Bde expressing the G.O.C's appreciation of the work carried out by 2Lt SHILLCOCK MC and his patrol on the night of 30/31 Aug. He the G.O.C. considered the dash and initiative of all ranks especially L/Cpl REID Was most creditably and that the handling of the patrol throughout was excellent. Remarks. Two ORS sick to hospital. |
