Entry Work continued on new Batt HQ camp - MAMELON NOIR, and upon main line and outpost line trenches and wire. A patrol of 1 Officer and 20 ORS (Batt Scouts) left our lines at 2030 hrs and proceeded to GRAND PITON via DOUBLE HILL and thence to the E slope of CHAPEAU DE GENDARME. The wire located on previous patrol was found to be a few strands of wire on angle irons. No enemy posts were seen or heard. The ground N of CHAPEAU DE GENDARME was then reconnoitred and while this was being done enemy opened fire on patrol from his main trenches. Patrol returned without casualties bringing with it Bulgar Bombs and a pick head found on CHAPEAU DE GENDARME. Enemy artillery very active during the night - many 105mm being fired in the direction of BAJALCA. Remarks. 1 OR rejoined from Fd Amb. `
