Entry Work continued on new Hd Qr Camp at MAMELON NOIR and upon main line trenches and outpost line and wire. A patrol of 1 Officer and 20 ORS (Batt Scouts) under 2/Lt R.E. CHILDS) left our lines at 2030 hrs crossed BORDER RAV and proceeded to pt 11435/17750 to discover enemy post E of BORDER RAV and reconnoitre East fork of this ravine. Two Bulgars were seen to run back towards their own line from approx pt 11455/17735. They had probably heard our patrol. Rifle grenades were fired at them, but enemy were out of range. An enemy machine gun opened fire in the direction of our patrol from the NOSE. The patrol returned via BORDER RAVINE which was found to be covered with tall grass and thick undergrowth.
