Entry | Work carried out on main line trenches, dugouts etc and upon new outposts and outpost wire. A patrol of 1 Officer (2Lt A.V. SHILLCOCK MC) and 20 Batt Scouts reconnoitred PITON DE L'EGLISE and PITON DES 4 ARBRES. Movement was heard in MACUKOVO and when the scouts entered the village enemy seemed to move towards BANGOR RAVINE. Enemy put 3 T.M. shells into MACUKOVO RAVINE. When patrol moved back to PITON DE L'EGLISE further movement was heard in the long grass between P. DE L'EGLISE and the VARDAR. When this ground was examined there was every appearance of a large body of the enemy having been lying up there. The patrol then moved towards P. des 4 ARBRES, and when near the SUNKEN TRACK south of the hill an enemy party was heard moving towards the ORCHARD N of the hill. By the number of tracks in the long grass, the enemy party was estimated at 30 or 40 men, and it seems quite possible that the enemy was lying up near our outpost wire. Movement over the country in front of this sector is very difficult now, owing to very long grass and thick undergrowth. Remarks. 2 ORS to hospital (sick). |
