Entry Work on trenches etc. Patrol under LT C.E.B. ROGERS and 8 OR left PITON AVANCE at 2130 and reconnoitred PITON DE L'EGLISE. From there they saw an enemy patrol 30 strong leave PITON DES QUATRES ARBRES going in the direction of CARDIFF RAVINE. Patrol then advanced up the PITON and rushed a post of 2 men who challenged them from behind trees on the reverse slope. The post retired and heavy rifle fire was opened by the enemy from all sides - particularly from a trench on the northern slope and rifle grenades were fired as the patrol withdrew. A light barrage fell on MACUKOVO. Patrol returned by VARDAR RIVER to M8 at 0230. A few rifle pits under construction were found in addition to those previously reported. The enemy on PITON des QUATRES ARBRES was estimated about 30 rifles. At 2345 hrs about 10 shells fell S of M2. 1 OR wounded. Remarks. 4 OR to hospital, 16 OR joined from IBD.
