Regiment 7th Royal Berkshire
Location Greece, SAL GREC AVANCE
Entry At 0430hrs these two Coys left their positions of readiness the right Coy (D Coy) making for the line GK inclusive, the left Coy (A Coy) from K exclusive to the E edge of this Coy with its right on the railway and swinging its left round had cleared pt V by 0510hrs, then having organized itself on the line K to NE pt V and having a flank party at pt V, advanced on T. At 0520hrs touch was obtained with the 7th Ox and Bucks on the right and also between our right and left Coys. By 0550hrs the left Coy had completely occupied pt T meeting with no opposition until the last house in the N corner was reached where 2 Bulgars were seen who fired a few rounds and threw a few bombs then made off in a N direction. Our two Coys were now on line XT and at 0600hrs the right Coy advanced towards the line RS and were sniped at from about S. Shortly afterwards this Coy was sniped at from Pt R. The Coy pushed on and entered the wood on the line SR to a depth of about 50 yds throwing out a party to search the wood to pt Q and had reached the narrow neck N of R when the order to withdraw was given about 0715hrs, had they proceeded for another half hour they would have reached pt Q. By 0903hrs both our Coys were S of HODZA SUJU. Casualties killed 2 OR, wounded 1 OR. Casualties inflicted on the enemy 2 killed, number of wounded unknown. Total number of enemy seen 10. The country N of the railway line between pts G K is very thick, the grass being about waist high and the bushes about 6 ft high which made movement very slow and also observation very difficult and it is seldom possible to see for more than 30 yds owing to brushwood and hedges. Moreover it was very difficult to keep touch owing to the very extended front, the difficulty of seeing and the scattered nature of the village (CAKLI). Owing to rain observation from Advanced Battalion HQ and usual signalling was impossible and all messages from the front line had to be sent back by runners to the advance report centre. The enemy shelled RABOVO village as the last platoon was entering it.
