Location France, Maricourt Defences.
Entry Usual fatigues & work. Fine & very hot. All quiet. C & D Coys bathing at Brewery Baths. Some artillery activity by us at about 11pm. At 1-30am (27th inst) according to pre-arranged programme our artillery opened on German lines along our front in support of a raiding party who went over from 34th Bde on our left. Bombardment very heavy until 2-30am. Very slight retaliation. Companies "stood to". Very fine & hot. A good deal of aeroplane activity on our side. One of ours drove a German plane to earth away to our left about 7am. Col Dowell came up to say 'Goodbye' - to Bn on his appointment to be Brigadier General of 58th Inf Bde 19th Division. Fatigues as usual. Companies bathing in Brewery baths. No 12849 Pte Dean died of wounds at No 9 General Hospital ROUEN. All quiet.
