War Diary

1916-02-22
Regiment 6th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Albert
Entry The Battn relieved the Essex in EII [E2]. The relief passed off without incident. The trenches not very bad on the L (chalk) but wet on the R in the clay. Some snow fell during the morning and the afternoon. About 5pm the enemy heavily shelled the Tambour and made an assault. This has since been reported to have been a failure. Night quiet with us. There is now a Maxim Machine Gun Section in our sector. This consists of 4 guns & should prove useful when the men are more accustomed to trench warfare. There are also more trench mortars.
