Entry Lt Col AJW Dowell took over command of the Battalion in the trenches. Weather has taken a still colder turn. Work progressing as favourably as circumstances will permit. During the afternoon 9 Allied aeroplanes passed over our trenches from the direction of the German lines. At about 5-30pm the 179th Tunnelling Coy RE exploded a mine on our left - opposite the sector held by the 8th Suffolks Regt. Brigadier General WB Hickie CB gave up command of the Brigade on promotion - Brigadier General HJM Macandrew takes over.
