War Diary

1915-10-12
Regiment 6th Royal Berkshire
Location France, La Boiselle
Entry Morning quiet. About 4pm - 10 of our aeroplanes flew over enemies lines in a northerly direction. They were heavily shelled but without apparent effect. Both our own and enemy aircraft have been much in evidence today. At about 9pm our trench mortars sent one round into the crater opposite ILOT. The enemy immediately replied with sausages - into B coy at QUEMARI STREET - 13 exploded in a very short space of time & blew in a little of our trench. No one wounded. Some sausages were also fired into D Coy at 117 which blew in 8 to 10 yards of parapet. This sending over of sausages together with rifle-grenades and whizzbangs continued for some time & started again at 3.30am. Beyond a certain amount of damage to the trenches and parapets and one dug - out we came to no harm.
