Entry 3a.m. The 9th Essex Regt were ordered to assault and capture the position of Rifle Trench held by enemy by means of a frontal attack by 2 companies and a bombing attack by one company from each flank. The attack was not successful. By night the 35th Bde was relieved by 36th and 37th Bdes. The battalion after relief by 8th Bn R. Fusiliers moved back to the RAILWAY TRIANGLE.
