| Entry | The situation being now that the 88th Bde were established in GREASE Trench and HILT trench as far as N.20.d.4.5. Orders were issued for the 35th Bde to capture BAYONET trench from N.20.d.4.5. To N.20. Central. The attack was to be carried out by a company of this Battalion attacking from the Right and a company of the 7th R. Sussex (attached to us for the operation) from the left. The attack was timed for 3am. The company of 7th R. Sussex Regt was then to launch a bombing attack from N.20.c.5.6, and our Bn was to launch two bombing attacks simultaneously from the right. The success of the operation was made impossible by the fact that the enemy opened a heavy barrage at 2.45am. Owing to the situation revealed by patrols, the attacks were never launched. Casualties:- 2Lt H.K. MAY wounded, 3 o.r. killed, 22 o.r. wounded. 2 o.r. missing. |
