Entry Quiet day. Relieved by Norfolks midday 1 wounded Copies of telegrams 14/10/15 The Brigadier has been informed that the Corps Commander was particularly pleased with the conduct of the Troops throughout yesterdays operations. The Brigadier desires to congratulate the 35th Bde on having gained such excellent opinions in which he himself fully concurs. 15/10/15 The Corps Commander has expressed his admiration for the performance of the Division and his satisfaction that we have achieved what has already been twice attempted. The Major General hopes that as far as possible no kits or equipments belonging to the 12th Division will be left lying about in front of or near the trenches when we are relieved and the Brigadier is sure Battalions will make it a matter of pride that every effort is made to get in all that is on our charge. The following message received from Guards Division 18/10/15 Well done neighbours stick to it. Sincere thanks for help and co-operation yesterday and to-day. The following received from the Corps Commander 18/10/15. "Please convey to the Officers, N.C.O's and men of 12th Division my appreciation, their successful attack against Gun Trench on 13th inst. and also of their efforts to gain possession of the Quarries where they have made an important and successful advance. This attack was carried out by troops who had been for some days in the trenches and reflects great credit on all. 14/10/15 (Sgd) R. Haking, Lieut General, Commanding 11th Corps. The following message from Division received 19/10/15 The Major General is especially pleased with the behaviour of your Brigade not only against the attack of the Germans today but with its general conduct in the [sic as written] in the trenches during the recent operations. The 9th Essex Regt. are to be especially commended on their gallantry in capturing the Quarry Trench and on the manner in which they have withstood two determined attacks by the Germans this afternoon which reflects the greatest credit on their Officers and on all ranks.
