Entry 'A' Coy took 'C' Coys place in the trenches. At 9p.m. a defensive mine was exploded in front of the Canadian line of trenches. The explosion followed by a burst of artillery and rapid infantry and machine gun fire, the Battn co-operating with the Canadian Division. The enemy responded vigorously and fired several rounds of Artillery fire, shells falling behind the trenches and in PLUGSTERT WOOD sic [PLOEGSTEERT WOOD] Duration of fire 35 minutes. Casualties No 11093 Pte W. Cornelius 'A' Coy killed by a machine gun bullet while in the trenches and No 11376 Pte H. Porter 'C' Coy slightly wounded by shell fire.
