Regiment 2/4th Royal Berkshire
Location Egypt, Sidi Bishr
Entry Special Order of the Day by Lieut Col C R C Royal DSO Commanding 2/4th Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment Orders have been received that this Battalion is to be disbanded on September 25th 1919, and the personnel transferred, part to the 1/8th Battn Hampshire Regiment, and part attached to the 1/6th Battn Gloucester Regiment. Formed in October 1914, in time of War, the Battalion went to France in May 1916. From then, until the Armistice, on November 11th 1918 it took part in all the principal fighting in France and Flanders. During the winter of 1918 and 1919, it did Garrison work in France, and in May 1919 was sent to Egypt, as a unit of the Army of Occupation. Its history, though short, is a proud one, and though as a Battalion we may cease to exist, I know that the spirit of the Battalion, and of the Regiment, will ever remain in your hearts. At the present moment there are now serving, Officers NCO's and men of all the Battalions of the Royal Berkshire Regiment, and there are also a large number of NCO's and men of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. For all to have worked so well together, and formed such a splendid spirit of comradeship and of "esprit de corps" is no small thing and I hope that whatever your future may be, both as soldiers and civilians, you will always remember that you were all members of the 2/4th Battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regiment and act worthily of it. It has been my privilege to command this Battalion for sixteen months, and it is with feelings of deepest regret that I now say Goodbye. I wish you all Good Luck and a successful future.
