War Diary

1918-05-20
Regiment 2/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Robceq
Entry The day was again fine and warm. Usual firing by our artillery took palace during the day and night and caused fires on the CALONNE ROAD and in LA PIERRE AU BEURE. There was little enemy aerial activity in the forward area and enemy machine guns and trench mortars were quiet. Our aircraft were very active and a large number crossed the enemy lines and about 12 EA crossed our lines during the day and were engaged by our machines and AA Guns. Enemy balloons varying in number from 1 to 6 were up during the day. Patrols were sent out from both the forward Companies, but owing to the extreme brightness of the night, were unable to get close to the enemy line. At 4am a man examining our wire in front of forward post was killed by our Snipers. A dump was seen to blow up and burn in the direction of LESTREM.
