War Diary

1918-05-10
Regiment 2/4th Royal Berkshire
Location France, Robecq
Entry The day was very quiet, enemy artillery being inactive. At about 9pm a dozen 4.2's fell around Bn HQ killing one man. The Battalion was relieved in the Front Line by the 2/4th BN OXFORDSHIRE and BUCKINGHAMSHIRE LI and took over from 2/5th BN GLOUCESTERSHIRE REGIMENT in Support. The double relief was completed without incident by 4am 11.5.18. Listening Patrols of 1 Officer and 10 OR were sent out by both Front Line Companies and remained out until Relief. The night was very dark and 2/Lieut W H FRY and 8 OR of the RIGHT Patrol failed to return. From the evidence of Sergt NASH and other members of the Patrol, it is feared that they lost direction and walked into the enemy's lines.
