Entry The Commanding Officer proceeded on leave, Major I M ANDERSON took over the command of the Battalion during his absence. The Intelligence Officer and 3 OR proceeded by Motor bus to DRESLINCOURT and from there went on foot to billet the Battalion in CURCHY and ETALON. They were joined at CURCHY by 4 OR on cycles. At 1.30pm a working party consisting of 1 Officer 1 NCO and 4 OR per Coy and all Pioneers left ROSIERES for the new billeting area. The Billeting party on arriving at CURCHY found that the French Troops in occupation of CURCHY and ETALON were not evacuating those villages as the troops were suffering from dysentery. The Intelligence Officer sent this information to:- 1. The Battalion at ROSIERES. 2. Old Brigade HQ at ROSIERES. 3. New Brigade HQ at VOYENNES. Temporary HQ for receiving messages were established at CURCHY then the Intelligence Officer proceeded by Horse-sleigh (the ground being covered in snow) to NESLE where the matter was reported to the Area Commandant who communicated direct to the BRITISH and FRENCH Armies in the Area that the matter was being dealt with and the Intelligence Officer was ordered to stand by at NESLE to await orders. At 11.30pm orders by telephone were issued through 184 Brigade to the effect that:- 1. French troops would evacuate CURCHY and ETALON on the morning of the 7th inst. 2. The Medical Authorities had stated that the villages were safe as regards the dysentery. 3. The Billeting of the Battalion was to proceed. Movement Orders for the Battalion to proceed to CURCHY and ETALON were issued at ROSIERES in the evening.
