Entry Companies moved independently at 9am. "A" and "B" to VRELY, "D" and "C" to MEHARICOURT where they were engaged on platoon Training until 11am. Companies moved along the road, taking all usual precautions as though advancing toward enemy and were fired upon with VERY Pistols representing artillery fire in order to practice companies to artillery formation suitable to the ground and to advance with cohesion whilst in that formation. At 11am orders were sent to "A" and "B" Coys to move from VRELY to the East and take up a position in a line of old gun pits. They were informed that the enemy were massing for attack in MEHARICOURT and that they were to move up over the open, taking all precautions. At the same time "D" and "C" Coys in MEHARICOURT were informed that the enemy had been located in the above position and that they were to advance over the open and capture the position. Troops to assemble in MEHARICOURT and debouch from village at 11.45am. At the conclusion of operations the Battalion reformed in VRELY where it was joined by the Regimental and Brigade Bands and marched back to billets. During the afternoon Coy Commanders were engaged in a preliminary reconnaissance of ground for Scheme of Training to take place under Brigade arrangements on the 5th inst. The Commanding Officer, 2nd in Command, Intelligence and Signalling Officers went to the training grounds East of ROSIERES and made a reconnaissance for a Battalion counter attack exercise to take place on the 4th January. Battalion routine Orders Parts 1 and 11 were issued.
