War Diary

1917-09-13
Regiment 2/4th Royal Berkshire
Location Belgium, Trenches Wieltje
Entry The attack previously arranged to take place about dawn on the enemy defences of GALLIPOLI, AISNE HOUSE and [concretis] at D13.d.1.6. by 2/5 GLOSTERS and 2/4 ROYAL BERKS was cancelled and every effort was made to consolidate and improve our present position. Our artillery was fairly active during the day and night. Between 2am and 4am a few gas shells fell around WIELTJE. The enemy put down a fairly stiff barrage on our front system about 4.30am, which lasted for about half an hour. Between 4.30pm and 5.30pm he bombarded the Old British front and support trenches in the vicinity of WIELTJE. Both our own and enemy aircraft were fairly active. Trenches were consolidated.
