Entry Holding line in FAYET SECTOR. A small operation was carried out by a party of 3 officers and 50 men against CEPY FARM with the object of driving the enemy out and also to prevent him holding it at all in the future. Capt WILLINK "A" Coy was in command. The party consisted of 2 officers and 30 of A Coy and 1 officer and 20 men B Coy. A barrage was put on CEPY FARM and behind from 9.30pm - 9.40pm when it lifted. Our parties at once worked round the farm, three of four of the enemy were seen to escape. They were fired on without result. 2Lieut Hinchcliffe 1 NCO and 12 OR entered the farm with object of searching it, and after bombing several cellars could find no Huns there. Sgt Denton and 10 OR entered the farm as a standing patrol and 2Lieut Hinchcliffe and his party were ordered to withdraw covered by Rifle Grenades directed at the Hun line in rear of farm. The withdrawal was steadily carried out. At about 11.45pm 2 parties of enemy about 20-30 each attempted to cut of the Standing patrol of 1 NCO and 10 men by working round on each flank. Sgt Denton at once opened fire on them but was forced to relive out of the farm buildings to a point about 100 yards W of farm. Casualties 1 OR killed.
