Entry On evening of 30/31 the Battalion advanced on VERMAND. A patrol under Capt Whitaker and 2Lt Brain with 20 men reconnoitred to CEMETRY with orders to hold on when taken. "A" Coy in immediate touch with this patrol, with orders that when cemetery was held by us and village reported more or less clear, to occupy and hold VERMAND. B and D were in immediate readiness to support. OC "A" Coy Capt Willenk advanced on VERMAND occupied same by 4am 31st. C Coy then pushed forward and consolidation carried out. At 6am Bn HQrs, "B", "D" Coys entered VERMAND.
