Entry 0700: Fwd. coys cross Start Line. 1015: 999808. D Coy held up by mortar fire 1005: Place H996896: Bn. HQ established 1020: Brig. visited Bn.HQ & ordered Bn. to consolidate north of S. ANTONIO, preparatory to moving fwd. along road S. ANTONIO - S. MARIA d.STELLA (9992) - PENNISI (9994) - COSENTINI (9996) 1030: C Coy ordered to move into reserve, area Bn. HQ. B Coy to adv. through A Coy and try to gain high ground about 915 Northing. 1110: Mortar fire on Bn. HQ. Lt. DIGBY wounded & evacuated. 1205: B Coy held up by heavy mortar fire about 997915 a.m. Throughout morning intermittent mortar fire on S. ANTONIO, A,B, & D Coys. 1530: Bde bounds & boundaries recd. 1615: Bn. moved fwd. along route already given. Order of march - A, Adv Bn HQ, D, B, C. When A Coy reached Xroads 000917, it came under heavy mortar fire, but fwd. pl's managed to push fwd. to 920 northing, where Bde ordered Bn. to halt & consolidate for the night in present locations (see App.1.) 2400: Place H995910: Bde.
