Entry C-in-C 21 Army Gp approves the award of MM to Sgt Day. An ambush was laid by 'B' Coy for an expected attack by Polish DPs on WALLE (X4862). A Party. of 15 - 20 persons approachded an expected attack by Polish DPs on WALLE (X4862). A Party, of 15 - 20 persons approached the village at approx 2359 hrs. Unfortunately unknown to the patrol the local civilians had instituted their own alarm signal consisting of a man with a bugle on the approach of the raiding party this man blew his bugle whereupon the raiders withdrew at high speed in the direction of Belsen DP Camp. Attempts to intercept them however failed.
