Entry 1730: C.O's Conference. The C.O. informed all present of future operations and probable tasks. 15(S) DIV was to cross the ELBE in the area of LAUENBURG 8734 and form the initial bridgehead. This was then to be expanded to a depth of approx 7 miles and a width of 10 miles by 6 AIRBOURNE DIV with 15 BDE under command. 5 DIV would break out of the br-head and advance to LUBECK at best possible speed. The advance initially would be made on a one Bde front with 13 BDE leading as far as MOLIN and thereafter on a two Bde front with 13 BDE on the RIGHT, 17 BDE on the LEFT and 15 BDE in DIVISIONAL RESERVE. The advance was to continue as far as the 85 NORTHING. A parleying party would then be sent forward into LUBECK to demand the unconditional surrender of the town. If this was refused the town would be heavily bombed by the tactical air force. Within the Bde 2 WILTS would form the vanguard. D Day for this operation was the 29th May 45, and we were due to cross the river on D + 2 and previous to the crossing the Bn would move to a conc area SOUTH of LUNEBURG.
