Entry | In the morning in order to clear BLECKEDE 0026 completely, it would be attacked on two sides, from the NORTH WEST by the CAMERONIANS, and from the SOUTH astride the rd NIENDORF - BLECKEDE 0026 by C Coy of this battalion. C Coy would clear the town as far as X rds 001259, the attack was to be supported by arty and 3" Mortars 0730: C Coy crossed their start line, edge of WOOD astride the road 010246 and advanced upon BLECKEDE 0026, which was found to be clear of the enemy except for stragglers that had been left behind. The defenders had apparently withdrawn across the RIVER ELBE before first light. In all a further 37 P.W's were taken. On our right the ESSEX had occupied the town of BARSKAMP 0320, and were now clearing up as far as the RIVER ELBE, Now that this area had been cleared the battalion took up the following area. B Coy ALT-WENDISCHTHON 0125 A & C Coys GODDINGEN 0282 D & S Coys NIENDORF 0122 The task of the battalion was now as follows. Firstly, to prevent enemy patrols crossing the RIVER, by constant patrolling of the battalion area. Secondly to clear the area of enemy stragglers. Thirdly to clear the whole area of civilians and fourthly to guard any V.P's such as dumps found in the area. The forward company was to be regularly relieved and coys were given areas to keep clear of civilians and enemy. Reference to Appendices: REF MAP 1:100,000 L5 LAUENBURG. |
