Entry 0900: A platoon drill competition was held for all platoons in the Bn. Each platoon had a minimum strength of 24 O.R's. Judges were the Adjt of 1. G.H. and the senior C.S.M. of 5 ESSEX, R.S.M. 2 WILTS. The winner of the competition was 14 Pl 'C' Coy commanded by 2/Lt R.A. Clarke. An Int Sec Ex arranged by Bde HQ took place on the same day. All secs were commanded by their intelligence Sgts. The object of the exercise was to test the standard of trg of secs within the Bde and to observe how secs handled inf and what deductions they made made [sic] without the assistance of an officer. This was also the date of the Div M/C Trial which was held in the hilly country around LATRUN. The Bn team which was represented by Cpl Price, L/C Irwin and Pte Bancroft won the cup, the team only losing 49 pts out of a possible 210. This was an outstanding success for the Bn, as it was expected that team entered by R. Signals or R.A.S.C. would win. Pte Bancroft was also the runner up in CLASS A Matchless machines. He lost 12 points. This was the first event in the way of sport of a Divisional nature that the Bn won during the period of rest. Reference to Appendices: APPENDIX B
