Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location Camp 524 Gaza, Palestine
Entry The eliminating rounds and some of the semi-finals of the Bde inter-unit boxing competition were fought in the afternoon in the CAMP CINEMA. During the whole month the Bn was prepared to carry out an Internal Security role in JERUSALEM. This role was known as Operation 'FOOTLIGHTS' and it would come into effect as soon as a state of emergency was declared by the Area Comd. If this operation had to be carried out, the whole Bn less a Rear Party would move to JERUSALEM and would occupy Leave Camp for WEST AFRICANS and INDIAN Personnel. The Leave Camp would be emptied of all leave personnel. The duties that the Bn would have to carry out are as follows. Firstly the Bn would have to enforce the Curfew on the whole or part of JERUSALEM. Secondly it would have to provide the majority of the troops for the defence of HQ PALESTINE and the Govt Buildings and would also have to suppress terrorist activities in any part of the city.
